TRAUMA-INFORMED AND RESILIENT LIFE COACHING

The Benefit of Life Coaching

Life coaching is the process of helping individuals find the path between their present and the future they want to achieve. It is a valuable way of developing skills, competency, and performance. Coaching can also help you deal with issues and challenges before they deteriorate.

A typical life coaching session lasts about 50 minutes and is a dialogue between the coach and the individual. The life coach's role is to assist the individual in identifying and setting plans to achieve their desired goals. The scope of life coaching is broad, encompassing areas such as career, business, relationships, and well-being.

Coaching and Counselling: Similarity and difference

Coaching and counselling share a similar objective, which is to help you towards personal growth. Both counselling and coaching operate on the premise of

•          Building a trusting, non-judgemental relationship,

•          Identify challenges that hold the individuals

•          Identify action steps to navigate the challenges

•          Act on the action steps

While both coaching and counselling aim to facilitate personal growth, they differ in their approaches. Counselling primarily focuses on healing emotional pain and addressing negative thought patterns, while coaching is more goal-oriented, leveraging personal strengths and encouraging action. Counselling may also delve into understanding and healing past emotional trauma, whereas coaching is solely concerned with the present and the future.

Trauma-Informed Coaching

Trauma-informed coaching is an approach that includes exploring and understanding the presence of past trauma and its effects on the individuals' present lives. Trauma-informed life coaches work with individuals to use their resiliency as a guide towards posttraumatic and solution-focused growth.

Trauma-informed coaching shares many similarities with trauma-informed therapy in that both aim to help individuals navigate through adverse life experiences and utilise them for posttraumatic growth. However, unlike trauma-informed therapists who would work with their clients to heal from the past, trauma-informed coaches limit the intervention to the present and future issues.

The difference between trauma-informed coaching and other life coaching sessions is that trauma-informed coaching will include psychoeducation components that explain the neurobiological challenges that individuals with a history of trauma face. The trauma-informed life coaches will guide the individuals to develop skills and resources to help them cope with triggers and navigate mental health challenges which often block their pathway moving forward.

The Transformative Approach of Trauma-Informed Life Coaching

Trauma-informed coaching is suitable for individuals with a range of issues such as social and performance anxiety, life or career transition, and difficulties in navigating life challenges. It is beneficial for individuals who want to avoid delving deeper into the healing of their past. Some individuals feel it will be helpful to continue with trauma-informed treatment at the end of the coaching session. However, some individuals decide that the coaching sessions have adequately helped them to face life challenges.
