THE Counselling PROCESS

About Counselling

Counselling is a process that focuses on enhancing your psychological well-being within a collaborative and confidential relationship between a professional counsellor and the client. People seek counselling for a variety of reasons. They may be facing a transition, work-related issue, a sense of depression, anxiety, or feeling trapped by events from the past that hindered them from progressing.

Counselling can take different forms depending on your needs and what type of therapy may be suitable. The counselling session is usually around 60 minutes, though the first session may take up to 1.5 hr. During the first few sessions, the counsellor may spend some time doing history taking. The information gathering is crucial to guide the conceptualisation of the treatment plan. The counsellor will collaborate with you respectfully to process your thoughts and emotions to bring insights into your situation.

In addition to "talk therapy", our counsellor may include projective tools or other treatment methods. For example, our senior therapist uses arts, sands and bilateral stimulation for trauma therapy.

The Benefit of Counselling

There are many benefits to attending counselling. Through the counselling process, you will experience a higher degree of self-awareness and a better understanding of yourself, enhancing your relationship with yourself and others. You will also learn a more adaptive way of regulating your emotions and managing challenges in life. It will lead to increased confidence and a more positive sense of self.
